Patriarch John X meets Belgian envoy to Syria

 

His Beatitude John X, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, met with Mr. Hubert Corman, Director of Middle East Affairs at the Belgian Foreign Ministry and Special Envoy to Syria and the Middle East, with an accompanying delegation, at the Patriarchate in Damascus.

The discussion focused on the current situation in Syria and the role of Belgium and the European Union in supporting the Syrian people through relief aid and lifting sanctions. In addition, there is a need to pushing the political process in Syria in the right direction, one that guarantees freedom, equality, and the effective participation of all groups in the various aspects of national work and producing a constitution that establishes the basic principles and values of the state on the basis of citizenshi. This aims to preserve a unified Syria.
